Salamander in Türkheim on its way to becoming a climate-neutral company

Sustainability has a long tradition at Salamander and is lived through resource-saving production and the responsible use of raw materials. The Salamander founder, Jakob Sigle, deliberately chose the location in Türkheim in order to use the natural energy resource of water and to act largely independently due to its proximity to the Wertach. Thanks to this wise, entrepreneurial decision, it is now the case that around eight percent of the electricity consumption is permanently covered by the company's own hydroelectric power plants, which have been located on the company premises in Türkheim for over 100 years. Salamander is currently purchasing a further 20 % of green electricity.

Sustainable, design-oriented products in the window and door systems sector

Salamander has been using sustainable materials for years to manufacture its products. The company relies on uPVC for the production of its window and door systems for good reason: an important ecological advantage of uPVC is its complete recyclability. That is why Salamander systems deliberately use a proportion of recycled material: Old windows and doors become a useful raw material again and can be reused in production. As an innovation, Salamander has developed the premium profile line "GretaTM - The better window". This window profile is produced in a climate-neutral way due to its use of completely recycled material and by purchasing green electricity. The open-pored, concrete-look window profile not only corresponds to current architectural trends, but also does justice to the topic of sustainability, as it consists of 100% old windows and valuable production residues. In this context, the energy supplier WSW Energie & Wasser AG, as a long-standing and reliable partner, has issued a certificate to Salamander, which confirms and appreciates the purchase of green electricity. A further recognition of ecological, economic and social responsibility is the award of the Sustainability Prize 2020 from "Deutschland Test" and "Focus Money", which Salamander received in a representative survey.

In terms of sustainability, the Salamander S500 strategy is firmly anchored in the Salamander strategy of reducing energy consumption and cutting emissions. Salamander relies on new and modern technologies to achieve this. For example, solar panels were recently installed on an area of 440 sqm as a carport on the company premises. The capacity of the solar carport will be 85 kWp. Theoretically, this could supply 30 households with electricity for a year. The solar carport will avoid 37 t CO2 per year, which corresponds to 2,977 newly planted trees. In addition, the carport provides sun and weather protection for the vehicles parked there. The carport is being built in cooperation with Ökovolt GmbH in Türkheim.

The solar carport was realised in a very short time by the local company Ökovolt GmbH Solartechnik, which shows that Salamander is sustainably committed to the regional economy. © Salamander Industrie-Produkte
