Salamander honoured as Red Dot Winner 2022
At this year's Red Dot Design Award, Salamander won the award in the Product Design category with its sustainable and innovative Greta®Fenster. The Red Dot Design Award is one of the largest design competitions worldwide and is internationally one of the most coveted seals of quality for outstanding design. As a haptic experience in a timeless design with a concrete look, Greta®Fenster combines the advantages of Salamander window profiles with ecological production from recycled materials. Salamander took part in the gala event last Monday.
Türkheim/Unterallgäu, 21.06.2022 - Salamander's sustainable Greta®Fenster is the Red Dot Winner 2022 in the Interior Design Elements category. For Salamander, this award is of great importance, because with around 20,000 submissions annually, the Red Dot Award is one of the largest design competitions in the world. Salamander Group Marketing Director Sven Landrock attended the official award ceremony on behalf of the company. "It is a pleasure and honour for me to receive the award on behalf of Salamander. The Red Dot is a confirmation of our work and an incentive for the future to continue to inspire our customers with design, innovation and sustainability."
Co-CEO Till Schmiedeknecht sees the prestigious award as confirmation of the tireless work and successful cooperation at Salamander, which have led to the innovative Greta® window: "Prestigious awards stand for perception and recognition of exceptional performance in the market and thus set a visible sign of the successful strategic path Salamander is on."
After the award ceremony, Greta®Fenster will be on display in the digital Red Dot Design Museum until May 2023.
Pure design & sustainability
The material used in Greta®Fenster comes 100% from recycled old windows and production offcuts. The Salamander premium line Greta®Fenster also has the best insulation values at passive house level. The specially developed and innovative natural texture in concrete look and the unique haptic surface make the window an expierencable design object. "We are very proud to be Red Dot Winner in the Product Design 2022 category with Greta®Fenster. In addition to functionality, appearance is also of crucial importance in any window. Furthermore, Greta®Fenster is for us a pioneering step towards a sustainable future combined with timeless design," says Salamander Co-CEO Götz Schmiedeknecht.
In addition to the unique look, Greta®Fenster offer a haptic experience. With recycled material, it is not possible to achieve completely smooth surfaces in today's production processes, which is why recycled material has so far only been used in the profile core. Salamander takes advantage of this unique texture and offers a modern and innovative profile with a particularly slim design.
The Red Dot Design Award
Participants of the Red Dot Design Award can enter in three disciplines: Products, Brands and Communication Projects as well as Prototypes and Design Concepts. For each award, a jury meets annually to individually review the submissions and then decide on the awards. The jury consists of designers, professors and journalists and this year was made up of 48 personalities from 23 nations.
In 1955, a jury came together for the first time to evaluate the best designs of the time. "In this competition year, I was particularly struck by the pronounced creativity of the award-winning products. The fact that there are still designs that surprise in form and functionality is really impressive and commendable. Thus, it becomes clear that design does not allow itself to be limited by unfavourable circumstances or even stagnate," says Professor Dr. Peter Zec, initiator and CEO of Red Dot, about this year's competition.
